Chinese New Year 2025 in Prato: the year of the snake begins

Once again this year the is preparing to celebrate, starting next January 28, the beginning of the Chinese year.
It will be a celebration full of events and unique moments designed for adults and children, curious and traditionalists, lovers of culture, art and folklore.
In Chinese tradition, the zodiac has a 12-year cycle and each year is linked to a mouse, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig animal. The zodiac animal is then associated with one of the 5 basic elements, which are wood, fire, earth, metal and water.
To be more precise then, 2025 will not only be the year of the snake, but the year of the wooden snake. This association of animal and element define the characteristics of the year that has just begun. The snake represents patience, cunning, and the ability to transform and evolve, an aspect well evident in this animal changing its skin and thus becoming a symbol of renewal on both the personal and spiritual levels. Wood, on the other hand, imparts a meaning of connection with nature, creativity and intuition.

Why is the Chinese New Year celebrated in Prato?

The largest Chinese community in Italy lives in this city, consisting of nearly 21,000 members. Chinese immigration to Prato, which began in 1990, has seen the arrival of both people from the People’s Republic of China and Chinese citizens from other Italian or European cities. The majority of Chinese people in Prato come from a limited area of Zhejiang, a region in southern China, and especially from the city from Wenzhou.
In this spirit of celebrating the New Year and welcoming people, we at the Landladies concierge association ETS, propose two itineraries to allow everyone, citizens, visitors and guests to delve into the city’s history and learn about its most interesting pages. In this way you will discover how Prato has always been a welcoming city capable of looking beyond its borders.
We offer you a more traditional itinerary to learn about the city and one with a more contemporary soul.
Each tour will include a tasting of Biscotti di Prato, after all, how can you understand the history of a place without tasting its food?
